![]() Version three adds one new module, the Sculptor… There’s an EQ, which is endowed with dynamic bands, masking metering and a Learn function a compressor, which can be made multiband, set into vintage mode, and instantiated twice within the channel strip an Exciter with an X/Y controller for its modes, then multiband-capable Gate and Transient Shaper modules. ![]() If you’re rocking the Advanced version of Neutron 3 (as opposed to its Standard or Elements incarnations), you get all these available single plugins as well, each with its own signal-analyzing Learn control. If Ozone is the industry-standard mastering effects plugin, Neutron is the same for mixing, letting you set up a re-orderable chain of effects. The ModulesĪs a channel strip, you could draw parallels between Neutron and iZotope’s Ozone package. Sure, the one-click Mix Assist function will analyze any track that contains an instance of Neutron and start setting EQ cuts, compression settings and so on, but the idea is to use Neutron as a starting point, directing you towards potential problems in a project and giving you some general processing ideas. Neutron may be advertised as an AI-endowed super toolbox, but the aim actually isn’t to have your tracks mixed automatically. Neutron is iZotope’s artificial intelligence mixing software package, comprising one master plugin, Neutron, which acts as a channel strip with some familiar processes (EQ, compression, transient shaping et al.), and a few other elements to help you take command over the mixing process in your DAW. What does iZotope’s Neutron offer in its third version and how does it manage to share a modus operandi with the UN? James Russell takes us through it. The new sessions are also designed to use up to half the memory and a third of the CPU as their predecessors. This AI mixing assistance technology has been around for a while now. Neutron 3 sessions are touted to boot up at three times the speed of Neutron 2. Improved performanceīoth the Standard and Advanced versions are equipped with improved software performances. Free with a demo download of the Advanced version is the Visual Mixer plug-in, which aims to tweak the gain, pan and width of all in-session Neutrons or Relays. On both the Standard and Advanced versions, you’ll be greeted with interfaces that have smoother visualisations as well as resizing features that grant you more precise control. Neutron 3 has been given a UI overhaul with attractive visual upgrades. It also arms you with 25 different instrument profiles that can transform each instrument into a “new version of itself”, according to the brand. Sculptor uses machine learning and custom DSP to craft a “custom preset” for each track. ![]() iZotope likens its function to a “per-band army of compressors and EQs” dedicated to shaping your track. The new Sculptor plug-in, available in both Standard and Advanced versions, is designed to sweeten the sound of your instrument tracks. The plug-in even lets you select which tracks you want to be the focus of your mix and is made to work with instrumentals and vocal-centred music. The purpose of this analytical listening is to help you find a starting balance, which will form the foundation of your mix. The brand touts the new Mix Assistant, exclusive to Advanced, as the first-ever plug-in that listens to your project and communicates with each track in the mix. With Neutron 3, iZotope has introduced machine learning into the mixing game. ![]()
